The Federal Government is seeking feedback on options to ban non-compete clauses that prevent workers from moving to better paying jobs, potentially taking clients and colleagues with them, along with measures to stop businesses colluding to make no-poach and wage-fixing deals.

The government has released a consultation paper entitled Reform to Non-compete Clauses and Other Restraints on Workers, which can be accessed online.

The federal government is seeking to lift current restrictions with the Industrial Relations Minister Amanda Rishworth and the Treasure Jim Chambers stating that “workers should not be handcuffed to their current job when there are better opportunities available".
